Irritated Klopp on Real Madrid’s interest in Liverpool’s head of sports

Liverpool’s sporting director Michael Edwards has built up a good reputation following many successful transfers for the English club, such as Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah. But his contract only lasts until next summer.

This is also when Real Madrid plans to make a real inventory of the club. The Spaniards are interested in picking Edwards from the English club, states The Sun. The lure of going to Real in particular will be the big changes that await, where many new players are expected to be brought in, and where it also seems likely that the club will bring in a new coach.

However, Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp is not worried that they will get rid of Edwards. When the question comes up, the German gets rather annoyed.

“What kind of story is that now!? We talk about the contract of the sporting director which expires next year? We’ve worked together for six years and I don’t think I’ve had a different sporting director.

“But it’s not my decision to do these kinds of things, so I don’t know. You need to ask other people about this, but over contracts, we don’t discuss, right. So I will not start now with the sporting director.

“That’s really interesting, I’ve never spoken before about the contract of a sporting director. If it was my point of view, if it expires next year, which I didn’t know exactly, I will think about that next year and not now.”

Edwards came to Liverpool from Tottenham in 2011.
